Making New Hams

Interested in Ham radio? Have questions?

You’re found the best place.

Answering Ham radio questions is a primary reason the Coos County Radio Club exists.

Making new Hams is a cherished Ham Radio tradition!

After all, Ham radio is as much (or more!) an Art form as it is scientific.

Which is a little nuts because There isn’t a single definitive book officially titled “The Art of Ham Radio.” (We just checked.)

As you may already know, operating Ham radio requires an FCC license. We’ll help you find the resources you need to get there.

CCRC / ARES volunteer discusses Ham radio with a member of the public.

SWORA (our regional repeater association) conducts in-person testing on the third Thursday of even numbered months. You could easily be ready for an exam by August 20th. Other groups also conduct online testing, so you can take the exam whenever you are ready.

Below, is a .PDF with detailed info about the FCC and Ham radio licensing.

Also: On the top of the front page of our (this) website is a button:

New Hams Start Here.” It’s linked to a very good online document. It will give you an idea of what to expect as a new operator.

… Which looks exactly like the button on our home page… ;-)

You might want to check out the Club calendar, ( https://coosradioclub.com/calendar/ ) where club and other Ham-related activities are listed.

Here is what to expect with Ham Radio Licensing
